Phone Instructions

The phone may be forwarded to Ann Arbor. Here are the forwarding and unforwarding instructions:

Call Forward

To Activate:

Lift the handset, listen for the dial tone, press *72, and then listen again for the dial tone. Next, dial the number for the forwarding location. Call Forward Variable is activated as soon as someone answers. If no one answers the other line, repeat the above steps and then Call Forward Variable will be activated (a tone confirms activation).

To Deactivate:

Lift the handset, listen for the dial tone, and then press *73 (a tone confirms deactivation). If you leave Call Forward Variable on and receive a call after returning home, you will hear a “ring splash” (a short ring indicating that the call is being forwarded). You cannot answer the ring splash. It merely reminds you to deactivate Call Forward Variable now that you are home.

Picking Up Voice Mail

Voice mail can arrive for two reasons. First, the answering machine may not be turned on. Second, a call might come in while someone is on the phone. In the second case, you should get a beep in your ear and the number will appear on the phone. The voice mail greetings advise people that we may not pick up the message right away.

To get messages from voice mail, dial the Alpena number 354-4742. The system will tell you how many messages you have, press 1 to play them. After they have played press 3 to delete.
